I had a problem on this last trip with the shifter not returning on shifts.

Took it off and found the shaft completely dry. No sign of any lubricant ever.

Lube'r up good... :)

BTW, I would have done it on the trip, but some practical joker put a torx head screw on the front mount. Lil basturd...

:)

So, your in FL and now you can overfill your tank and not leave any room for expansion. Good idea!
Yep, that's me. I also have a tendency to ride my bike after I fill it up with fuel too.
There is no feeling like the feeling you get when you just know you outsmarted the engineer that designed the bike.

I took an icepick and punched a couple of holes in the side of the tin cup that sits inside the gas tank. Now maybe I can get more than 5.8 gallons in it.I also got a flat yesterday and had to plug the tire and replace the valve stem.
I thought you ran over the icepick...

I hadn't wrenched on my '05 in months.... she starts every time and I've just been commuting rain or shine.

However, last weekend I installed a new/used Penske rear shock that I got from another member here.... straight forward, about 2 hours. Suspension links (those I could access) were in pretty good shape considering 11 yrs old and 60K miles. A little corrosion on one but nothing serious. Now I'm just playing with the compression and rebound settings. Shock was set-up slightly longer than the OEM unit (that's adjustable) so my ride ht. is up a bit and it goes up on the Center-Stand easier. Otherwise, all good so far and at least I'm not dragging pegs around every corner (have lowering brackets) like before (I was about to take them off).

Regards,

Mr. BR

He's just jealous. They get shrinkage up there... lol

Yup. Serious shrinky-dink.

Washed it. It's rare I ever do anything other than just hose it off but every time I do the bucket hand wash thing I remember why I fell in love instantly with this color. Even after 8 yrs and 87K miles I'm amazed it always looks so good, nicks and scratches included, following its annual spring wash and wax.

Got to ride a few times this winter and all was fine. Took it out a few days ago, it was 80 degrees here, and the rear ABS didn't work when I started doing my spring braking exercise at the mostly abandoned Hanger Row at Coldwater airport. I was surprised how easily the rear locked up.

Brought her home after stopping for DOT 4 and flushed the clutch and all the brakes several times hoping to restore ABS function but no dice. Fluid didn't look all that bad, some slight brownish discoloration compared to the new stuff but I guess it was enough to do the deed.

Anyone ever replaced brake fluid with PB Blaster temporarily in an attempt to free up the ABS valve body ?

Rode it to work, got frustrated with the uncaring stupidity of a few workers and sent myself home for a bad attitude. Got home, changed oil and filter, changed final drive oil and headed out to some twisties before stopping by to talk to Dad. We both agree it may be time for a job change.

Struggled putting the Givi 357 rack support on.

Like others, had to manufacture a rear spacer, threw away their too short button head allen screws and replaced them with M8-50mm screws which actually engage all the threads in the rear three attachment points. I knew I read that there would be issues - there were, I stripped the top three threads out on the rear most screw before i got smart and went shopping.

Now to adapt the old Monokey mount to the Wee-Strom, which looks do able :) when I get back from the Ft Lauderdale to LA Cruise with SWMBO, leaving Friday.

Finished installation of GenIII shock in the '09, set rebound at 12 clicks out and preload on soft. Riding weight around 185#. Tested by riding to Ellensburg for mid-afternoon lunch at Red Horse Diner. Soak up large bumps better, turn in effort unchanged and holds line without further input. No real fast twisties but I'm happy with the improved ride.
