Yesterday's predicted rain with mixed in snow managed to get Boston to break the all time snow record for the last 140 years of record keeping. Our 'not to exceed 1inch' of snow is about four times that and it has frozen solid.

We just had our worst blizzard of the year. I don't think they can accurately measure the snowfall totals because of the extensive drifting. Took me over an hour to mostly clear the driveway (using a 10 HP snowblower). We often have a major snow event around St. Patrick's Day. Hopefully that was it for the season. Our problem has not been the amount of snow, although that has been pretty bad this year. We really haven't had a significant warm-up during the winter to beat back some of the accumulation. I expect it will be May before my lawn is completely snow-free. Needless to say, the FJR won't make it out anytime soon; even if we end out with a few days above freezing.

I spent almost an hour riding my ZTR around my yard today. The weeds were above my knees and the temp was 74F. I left muddy tracks almost everywhere I went but I never got stuck because I avoided the worst low spots. I am feeling sorry for you guys with your snow but at least you are not cutting grass and getting mosquito bit.

The last week has seen the temps get back to more seasonal, it actually went above freezing for a couple of days. We lost about half of our ground cover, but theirs still a ways to go before the snow is gone with over a foot remaining (and 6' snow banks). It'll likely be another month before I can get the scoots out.
It sure is great to see posts moving north of people getting their bikes out for the first rides of the year.

A small snowfall event is forecast for tomorrow - less than 4" which is welcome considering the nearly two feet we have had over just the last week (with blizzard conditions). Temperatures in the Northeast continue to suck donkey balls; averaging two to three weeks behind "normal" for this time of year. Daily highs are now averaging just above freezing (most days) but the long range forecast doesn't show daytime highs getting up to over 40F until at least the Easter weekend. While the street surfaces will soon be (mostly) free of snow and ice, there is so much salt and muck that I doubt I will attempt to get the bike out for at least a couple more weeks; especially since temperatures only exceed the freezing point for a few hours per day. There haven't been any rain events at all to wash away any of the winter's accumulation of "spooge". I'm sure we will set new records for frost heaves and potholes but these seem to be a just a minor annoyance compared to what we have been enduring.

More rain. Ho hum. My yard was just beginning to dry out from months of soaking. OTOH daffodils and forsythia are blooming, bluebirds and finches are arriving. And the grass! O M G!!!! I'll have to mow soon. All the wet then 3 days of sunshine and poof!! instant reconstituted lawn.
63` and sunny yesterday. We're about a month ahead of schedule for tulips and daffodils. cut the lawn 6 times already.

Got a couple of inches of snow here last night . . . .
Buttttttt, I'm staying at 10,000 feet at a friend's in the Ski Ranches at Telluride, Colorado, instead of reporting from the Sierra Foothills. Figuring this to be a cold dusting on top of spring conditions that are probably now dust covered boilerplate, we're taking the day off from skiing for some other amusements (taking the 2 Goldens on a snow hike to the falls) before getting in another two or three ski days before I return to drought country. It may be spring conditions here, but there's LOTS of snow on the mountain (in contrast to several Sierra resorts that have already closed for lack of snow and warm temps).
Will be back here on the FJR at the beginning of July following the event Big John has set up in Spearfish. (Mary Ellen will fall in love with the Goldens, and both she and Bob are going to be highly happy campers with the accommodations and hospitality! We may have to extend for a day from tentative plans so we can party with the town here on the Fourth.)
