That may be - but mine is still not accurate - also from what I was reading that the newer models have more accurate sensors.....
Both the speedometer and odometer are digital, they are as accurate as Yamaha wanted them to be, if there is inaccuracy it is calculated by Yamaha to be that way. The speed inaccuracy is not error, it is design, the wheel sensors and especially the VSS sensor signals are more that adequate to generate ± 1 mph speeds. The only inaccuracy that the ECU can't easily compensate for are things like tire size that can vary between manufacturers and tire wear.

What the fart smeller said! ^^^^^

The 'Speedometers for Dummies' version goes like this:

Gen I - Speedo off 2-3mph at legal speeds

Gen II - Speedo off closer to 5 mph

Gen III - the most accurate of the bunch, off a max of about 2mph at those legal speeds.

You want an accurate speedometer on your Gen I? Put a car tire on it. That will make the speedo dead nuts accurate. Almost like it meant to be there!

Yeah, mebby... Those accuracy numbers all go to hell when you change tire circumference by using a different brand tire or wearing one down to the nubbins like a certain 'Zonie is notorious for.

I've spent the last XX minutes reading through this thread because I was hoping to hear that some 2013 owner had put his money where his mouth was and ponied up the five Benjamins to retrofit a '14 ECU on a cruise control deficient '13. Seems that still has not occurred or did I miss something?

Plus - as long as it can maintain a speed around 30 mph, Dats Kool Wit Me !!

I found this idea intriguing.

Why would anyone want to "maintain" a 30 mph pace for longer than the time it takes to get to 31? Do you hang around in School Zones all day or something? I really can't imagine riding a motorcycle at 30 miles per hour for any length of time. I think I'd probably fall asleep, fall over, and end up rashing up my bike.

I've been waiting too. Lame-ass '13 owners. Well, if you want something done right you have to do it yourself. So stand by........

'Cos where I am, 30 is the normal urban speed limit, and they put these cameras in every so often.

Cruise control is the best way I know of holding my speed to a speed limit, whether it be any of the 70, 60, 50, 40 or 30 that are commonly used here.

You are far too young to own a gray bike, Greg.

Uhhhh..... Fred? If you would have for a moment stopped checking out my cute little caboose and looked at my hair you would easily agree that a gray colored bike will match me very well! Al;so fits in with my distinguished nature and high level of maturity.

There is a few stretches in town that are notorious for speed traps...... on my ride home - I go through a 3-4 mile stretch that has no stop signs nor lights plus its hilly, but is peppered with cops trying to snatch the speeders, and they do a good job too....

Usually I'm trying to concentrate on txting and updating my facebook status and don't have time to pay attention to the road or my speed - so lay off....

I also use CC to maintain adherence to the law at a low speed limit. I call it "saving money."

You forgot degenerates, zoophiles, and drunks... I resent that!

Is a 14 to 13 ECU swap plug n play?

Nobody knows until someone tries it. But that is the assumption.

Unless someone else attempts it first, MNFJR05 is planning on trying the ECU swap in his '13 with a '14 "A" ECU over the upcoming winter months.

Why wait 'till winter? The swap should take all of 15 minutes to accomplish, and if you do it during the Minnesota deep freeze you won't know the results until next June.

Gen III Cdn read about 10km fast, which is about 6mph.

I don't particularly care. It means I can run +30 over (km/h) and I'm not in the sweet spot for tickets. It's a psychological thang.

Does the above take into account allowable tolerances in the assembly specs and bike-to-bike variations? Seems awfully specific.

Yep, 15 minutes is all it takes...Fred can you tell me what to set my values to in the meter to ensure my fuel mixture is still correct with the new ECU? Do you have the ISV value so I can plug that in while I am at it? I am still RTFSM to make sure I can get to all the settings and make the changes without resorting a trip to dealer to find out if they can change the needed items. But apparently you have all the info. Please feel free to PM me with the values and instruction details on setting them via the meter on the Gen III. I will try and do it this weekend.

Getting a bit testy, are we?

What makes you believe that has changed from 2013A to 2014A? My (semi-educated) guess is that it has not. There would be no reason at all to change the CO settings. It is the same bike and engine. I believe that the Idle control is self regulating. Worst case it will take a few minutes to find idle speed.

Just plug the fricken thing in and start it up. No need to over-complicate this. Or you can stress out about it if you want. It's your show.
