Getting a bit testy, are we?
What makes you believe that has changed from 2013A to 2014A? My (semi-educated) guess is that it has not. There would be no reason at all to change the CO settings. It is the same bike and engine. I believe that the Idle control is self regulating. Worst case it will take a few minutes to find idle speed.

Just plug the fricken thing in and start it up. No need to over-complicate this. Or you can stress out about it if you want. It's your show.

I am with Fred on this one. If there are any changes to the fuel injection, then they are most likely improvements. Why negate those? Am I missing something?

ISV? What is that?

I know, I'm a dweeb. But we will watch Jeopardy most nights we aren't doing anything else more important. How else can one fill their minds with so much useless trivia in just 1/2 an hour?

Years ago when our grandson was just an infant, he would stop whatever he was doing, bouncing in his bouncy seat (now outlawed as being unsafe for young children) and turn and stare at the TV screen for the entire time the countdown music was playing. It was mesmerizing, apparently. He did not care at all for Alex, but that music...

Not testy, just have never messed with Gen 3 electrics. Barbarian modded my 05 so I am willing to go there. If you have and know I can adjust the CO values and reset the Idle Speed Value, please do tell. I have a 14A ECU on order. It will go in when I tear the rest of the bike down for winter maintenance...I feel no need to rush and will take my time. Haste causes all sorts of bad things to happen. I am paying close attention to Skooter's comments and think this IS going to be a plug and play affair....my risk aversion makes me check as much as I can before hand...

yamahapartswarehouse. Part is currently "unavailable" but I will be notified when it is available. $570+shipping. I am in no rush...planning on testing in the "offseason" anyway.

I thought that someone on this forum already bought a '14 ECU and installed it in their '13? I seem to recall it worked but that there were other issues that prevented him from keeping it in.

Now it may just be that I dreamed all this but I'm at least 20% sure I didn't.

I am sure it will run...I have verified the pin outs, etc. That all is good. I am verifying minor details between the 13 and 14 to ensure that in the long term this are all good, things like engine timing, etc. I have the 13 manual, I am trying to get my hands on a 14 manual to verify the last few items. I also prefer to do any testing on the cruise control, dual driving mode control, etc. on my ECU and not someone else's which if there is a problem could go poof. I don't mind being a pioneer. I am just going to do it cautiously.

I am going to assume I can set the CO values on the new ECU to the same values as the old to keep the thing within spec. There appears to be a way to do the ISV reset thru the meter according to my manual so I won't end up with a bike revving at sixteen hundred rpm at idle. Just need to understand the process to set the CO values...barbarian the 13???? I am not sure.

Looks like this part is on some type of backorder or hold...I haven't seen a wrecked 14 being parted yet to get a used one. I am very optimistic this will solve it for those that care. I am not an engine management genius so I am proceeding at my pace...slow and steady...

@MNFJR05 (Shouldn't you become MNFJR13?)

I played with the Diag functions on my 2014 today, just for grins. It appears that the control signal for ISC learning value is just a toggle. You just erase the old learned data with the display showing location "67" by toggling the kill switch three times in 5 seconds.

To display or modify the CO settings it appears to require the Yamaha Diagnostic tool (90890-03216) which plugs into a connector located near the air box inlet, kind of like the "Barbarian Jumper" enabled the CO setting, but this would be temporary. Otherwise when you get into the ECU Diag mode you can't select the CO setting mode, which the manual says you can do with the TCS switch.

I'm not sure that you would want or need to alter the CO settings anyway since the 2013 and 2014 "A" bikes have the same engine and fuel injection. In the past, all bikes of the same model type had the same exact CO settings, so that proved they were not setting the values on individual bikes. Whatever the stock "canned" settings are should be good for all bikes.

The Diagnostic Tool looks like it would be pretty pricey to obtain as it comes with some software and other cables to enable multiple different service activities through that port.

...
For the uninitiated, how do you enter the diagnostic mode on a Gen III? The only manual I have is the Haynes one, and that is very disappointing in some areas.

It is essentially the same as earlier gens. Hold down the two dash hard buttons (labelled TCS and Reset) for 8 seconds or more after you turn the key switch to on.

If you have the ES it will pop up a menu to select ECU or SCU (Suspension Control Unit). which you toggle with the top (TCS) hard button and then press both buttons again for 2 seconds to get into that selected Control Unit. If you don't have ES it would just go to the next step.

Once you are in ECU - Diag Screen this is where you should be able to use the TCS button to select Diag or CO Setting, but there is no CO Setting option without the special adapter plugged in. You press the two buttons again (for two seconds) to start displaying all the data locations and move forward and backward through the locations using the two hard keys.

At that point you'd need to have the FSM secret decoder to know what each location is and how to exercise the ones that can be altered.

Thank you.

Good stuff Fred! We need to get Alan to buy the diagnostic tool. I mean the boy does like to play........

Thanks Fred. That will solve the high idle. I just need my package to arrive...the forecast is for snow here today...riding season coming to a close. If I get all of my winter work done I can even test it out on a warm winter day when the roads are clear. I have boxes of stuff just sitting waiting to be installed over the winter...my last decision to make is the replacement of my final drive with one of the units with an RSV ratio installed. That one has me real interested for my jaunts out west. Wouldn't mind dropping down another 300 rpm or so...

Is that measured by the on board speedo or is that an outboard GPS ?!?!?
My speedo on my 05 is quite a bit off, almost 5mph at higher speeds compared to my GPS - less so at lower speeds, just a few MPH off but still not as close as I would have thought it to be.....

Thats with new or old tires......
Finally had a chance to do this. PR2's with about 4.5k on em

I fixed the cruise issue on my 2013 today. Amazingly, it made the bike turn the same color as the 2014...

Picked up the new 2014 in Memphis today from Honda-Yamaha of Memphis. Good folks over there. No fuss. Easy in. Easy out. Had a good, cold ride home along some back roads between Memphis and Nashville. I missed the boy's football game. I didn't plan on that, but I made the mistake of riding up the Natchez Trace.

There was a stretch of road where I was able to verify the cruise can be set well beyond 82 MPH. Good stuff.
