Looking on Youtube and other search sites, Moab is the kind of place where you can be moving along at a brisk pace on what appears to be flat ground, only to come up on a shear cliff of a thousand feet or so. Being its been a long while since I've done any dirt bike riding, I will have to sit back and listen to Patch's stories about the cliff that got away. I think I will take the Dual-Sport trails that mostly consist of two-tracks with an occasional single track.

I know..... I'm being a wuss! Hell, I don't even like being on the roof. I like the way the Wild & Crazy BeemerDon tears up the trails. I like the terms "Trail Riding" and "Dual-Sport". I enjoy watching people Rock Climb, Base-Jump and Wing-Walk, although never had the desire to do either.

I'll have to see how well I've regenerated my off-road skills by the time Moab comes around.

You better get on it Dan. A little DRZ400 handed me my *** a couple days ago. I was sore for 2 days. Lol. Getting "back in shape" sucks!!

BigD, the trails on the slick rock AT&T marked with paint and I didn't have anything "sneak up" on me. I'd suggest trying a trail or two with us on that WR. We're not getting crazy and tougher spots will mostly have spotters.

*********...Patch is serious. He said that **** twice.

What's funny is I just sent Dan the candy-*** man an email that said almost the same thing.

Ok...for anyone (including the AZ Beemer guys Don) who is planning on riding dirt, re: single track, slick rock, whoops, and such (NOT DUAL SPORT), can you please give me a heads up so I have an idea of how many people to plan for.
I'm up for the single track stuff on my WR450F. I have the ability to fall over on pretty much anything you can put in my way. I know this because I have over 40 years of experience on dirt bikes with about 35 years of cross-country and enduro racing. Just because I raced that long doesn't mean I ever got good at it but I was considered an Expert enduro rider at one point. The artificial knee has slowed me down some but I still like to play. I've never been a big fan of mud but put me in the sandbox and I am the "Whoop Master".

The following video is something I shot this past summer while out playing in the Ganaraska Forest up the road from my place.

Awesome Yamafitter, when are you getting there? I also race enduro...only cause ALL you gave to do is pay the entry fee n sign a waver, but it's fun! We're looking at some fun trails and I too fall over with regularity.

I have to talk with Huron52 as we have not actually put too much planning into this yet. I have to get to Point Clarke to load up Tom and then we have to figure out how to get across the Plains without running into Indians or snowbanks. We may have to stop in to harass Bust and anybody else we can think of along the way. Tom has the cabin rented so he has the actual dates that we will be in the area for FODS.

I received my new Pro Taper bars today about two inches taller than stock, plus I have a bar riser on its way that will raise them another 2" if need be, actually looks like my cables and such will be long enough to compensate for the additional height... maybe. I ordered a set of sprockets today also, going from a 13 Primary to a 12 in front and from a 50 to a 52 in rear which will give me a 4.33 gear ratio. It is geared right now for speed going around a track, but I want it geared for more technical maneuvering instead. I should have enough chain to compensate the change, if not I'll get a new chain also. Went ahead and ordered the rack from Pro Moto Billet like Yamafitter has on his bike, plus a new GYTR FMF slip-on, a GYTR Competition Kit/ECU and the GYTR Power Tuner and some graphics.

I wanted to be ready for just about anything, so I also bought a special set of tools solely in metric to take along, except it seems I ordered so much, which includes three extra tubes, tire repair kit, pump and a wheel stand just in case. I must now get a bigger tool box to throw in my truck.

Now I should be able eat a certain KTM

for lunch and show Patch

the proper technique to racing in the dirt. I wonder how he'll feel having his *** handed to him by an old man?

I'll feel about the same way I do after one of my enduring races! There're old guys there that beat the socks off me...oh, after ordering all that extra superduper fast stuff for your bike, don't forget your big boy pants. Also remember that you're going to want some speed so don't gear TOO low.

I'll have my GoPro with me so I'll be able to film the carnage between Patch and Big-D. This should be most entertaining.

Ha...You better practice hard Dan...Went on another ride with Patch on Thursday. Getting my dirt legs back...I can almost keep up...If he'd ride about 40% slower. WTF??

I'll tell you what, that big KTM is EASY to ride fast and hard. It's got balls for days and hooks up well.

Just finished putting that 13 tooth primary sprocket on Joe's DRZ. Feels better, but we'll see on Friday if it was enough. Gonna put a new rear tire on it this week too. That should help things a lot.

Hell...After Thursday's ride, I'm not even sore. Which is a good thing. You shoulda seen the hills we tackled. We laughed like idiots all the way to the top. The whoops are still kicking my ***, but soon...soon.
