In Photobucket, Shared Links, click once in the Direct Link box, the box should quickly change color indicating that the link was copied. In the Forum message box, in the tool bar at the top, click on the green picture box
PictureIcon_zps8da96c16.jpg
and then paste the copied link into the popup box (Ctrl V).
Yep, that did the trick. Thank you. Wrote green-screen software for years, still ain't happy with web programming, lol

I have photobucket. Running Explorer 11 (11.0.13 update). No joy posting pics. Reset Explorer defaults, restarted computer and still no luck. Get to "insert image" from the menu bar above and paste in the url link from photobucket and the pop up window just hangs regardless of the hitting Ok or Cancel. Have to refresh the screen to move on. Why o' why??

Could it be the size of the photo?

Could it be I have the album where the photo is at privatized?

okay...the little button in the upper left hand corner of the reply menu did it by clicking that then going to the "URL" link in photobucket and pasting directly in the reply box without any changing anything pasted in the reply...

.... yeah, and when you click the upper-left switch again (turning it back on?) the picture appears as if by magic -- which, I swear, is what actually makes it happen. Magic.

Works almost like that on my MacBookPro at the house. Close enough that I have been able to figure it out.

This here Dell laptop at the office produces the "Image Properties" sub-window in step 2, but will not paste anything in it (Step 3). When I manually type in the URL (variation of Step 3), the Dell allows the typing, but will not respond to multiple clicks on "OK, or on "Cancel" or on the little "x" in the upper right.

I can refresh the screen/URL, but that erases anything I have previously typed as a comment.

Guess it's Bill Gates' way of telling me to stop surfing at work.

<edit> To be clear, I'm not asking for help, just reporting the facts. And adding one more item to the list of "How Come I Ain't Completely In Love With the 21st Century".

<edit 2> Nice bike in post #162, DustOff.

Try it the hard way, it might work:
Click the little switch top left of the edit window tool bar, this turns your text window to nearer real computer-speak.

Type "
img%20
" ( without the quote marks and the spaces). Gives you this:

^^^^^^ Yeah, that's the same technique I was able to figure out. Thanks!

So I have loaded my photo onto shutter fly, sized it down to 100Kb, and on that site gotten an embed code and a share url and this site will accept neither. Is shutter fly just not compatible with this site?

I went ahead and created a dropbox account, loaded a photo, got the link for sharing, copied it, pasted it in the image link box, and got what you see above. I'm not new to this sort of thing, but this has me baffled.

The forum software is baffling at times Salish...I use photobucket which hasn't given me any issues, yet.

I marvel at the dark science of the internet, but have experimented with the MacBook Pro (home) and the Dell Windows machine (work) when posting photos.

There's a little 'light switch' in the upper left of the editing toolbar. When you switch it off, strange **** happens -- you see (I'm guessing here) html codes and all the stuff that hides behind the curtain when the switch is turned on. Play around with them and experiment with and [\img] and other utterings of an IT shaman. You'll find a combination that works.

That little 'light switch' also helps with quoting other posts and cut-and-paste on the MS machine. Could be OS settings; don't know and don't care -- I have found a system that works.

The board software has to reference an image file type. It can't reference the overlying page or something that includes the other sites parameters. So if it doesn't end in something like JPG or GIF is won't work.

The above reference breaks because it continues past .jpg and includes ?dl=0

The easy way to get a good link is to use "view image" on the other site (which should then give a direct link). If they're being tricky and blocking that, then it's up to the individual to edit the URL so that the link ends as an actual image file type instead of something hinky.
