Spooned a T30 GT on the front wheel. Just confirming what we've heard many times: that thing is a bitch to mount by yourself. I'm hope I like riding these stiff sidewalls. Not looking forward to wrestling that thing off any time soon. And it snowed here most of the day- so no test ride.

Chicken, LOL

Well it will be easier to get off since most the rubber will be gone. I won't be going anywhere for a while. I need to put my truck in four wheel drive to get through the mud pit on the way out of the driveway. Lookin like rain this week also. WHEN WILL IT END?

SHEEEEZ,

Dave

I rode it for the first time in a month. 70 degrees, blue skies....great to be back in the saddle!

Also put my new Cortech 2.0 18L tank bag on....perfect fit.

Not a damn thing. Still in the shed, plastics still off. Got distracted with spring outdoor stuff and bad news from the dr. I'll get back around to it, prolly later than sooner.

Sat and ogled it in the garage. Roads are clear, at least today. Temps a lick above freezing. Roads are _covered_ in salt and sand.

This year is gonna be like last year. Got the bike out about a week before the Ramble.

I need to order some paint from ColorRite to fix up my custom pinstripe job courtesy of the that Vermont guardrail. I"m going to look to have it drop shipped somewhere and pick it up and bring it across the border myself. No way I'm paying the FedEx/UPS brokerage fees. Likely during FODS/WV since I'll be in the truck anyway.

Other than that, gonna pick up some handlebar risers and a set of VStrom guards. That should do it for the modes this season.

I was planning on re-using my valve cover gasket again, but it's looking a bit dry, so I'm in a holding pattern until the big brown truck shows up. Once I get the motor buttoned back up I can start working on the aux tank and plumbing. Until then, I'm stuck doing silly stuff like this:

Before (closest) and after. The little black specks are tar that covers much of the lower part of my bike...the price you pay when you live in a place with only two seasons.

A good rub down with lacquer thinner removes most of the tar, then Mothers metal polish finishes the job. The pipe on the forward ends cleans up real nice with extra fine Scotch Brite.

I use kerosene to clean the tar off...works for me.

WD-40 also works!

I've tried WD40, but it doesn't work nearly as well as lacquer thinner.

Took a break from the chainsaw and rode to Penticton, via the longer twisty two-lane, Green Mountain Road.

It was a bit cool among the trees, but also very peaceful and virtually zero traffic. Encountered no deer, bear, moose or wild horses, and most of the winter sand and gravel has been scrubbed off.

Evidence remained of one or two trees where they had fallen partially on the blacktop, and had since been mostly cleared away.

Oh, and I installed tech-spec snakeskin tank thingies, remembering as I did how many of the older, 60's 'ujm's came stock with tank pads.

And I use varsol or mineral spirits for tar removal.

WOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOO!!!

Rode it to work today. 32 chilly degrees some spots of ice on the rode. Most of the pot holes have been filled. Still the roads are in the worse shape that I have ever seen. Great to be back on two wheels again.

Dave

Today, I took the rear fender back off and reinstalled my hooligan license plate holder. It is, depending on the computer model, supposed to rain later this week. Either one inch or only 2 thousandths of an inch. I DARE it... However, I am leaving the V-Stream on for another week before swapping it out for the targeting computer.

Called my insurance company to start a claim for my low side accident Friday morning when I was leaving my neighborhood on the to Arkansas.

I lubed my rear suspension today. I was prepared for a "2-3 hour job", but it turned into a 6 hour job when several of the bolts holding the center stand brackets on were siezed up and had to be removed with a reciprocating saw.

I'm now the proud owner of a 36mm socket that won't get used much more than annually, lol.
