What did you do to your FJR today?

Was pretty quiet in the house this afternoon since all the kids were playing with their Christmas stuff. In true honor to Don, I figured I better get my girl ready in case there was event or meetup I could reply to with an "IN" like our fallen friend did so well. So I got the old shock off in preparation of the Penske that is on the way from Fairlaner. Special thanks to Warchild, I used the FJRTECH site for directions on removal.

Come on UPS get a move on. JSNS!!

I moved a few things that were blocking my FJR in the garage, pulled out and took a nice ride for about an hour today. I believe this is the first Christmas Day ride ever for me. It was a nice day for a ride, but I'd rather have a little snow on the ground and much lower temperatures this time of the year.

I put the Christmas gift Yamaha tall windshield on the '09 this afternoon. I've been riding around with the used tall windshield on the '08, and with the stock windshield on the '09. I like the tall one better, so now both bikes are set up with the tall choice.

No rides today. We had over 2" of rain, as well as thunder, and lightening. Yet it was a very nice Christmas Day. Maybe one of the nicest in memory.

I am heading toward the guitar now.... and a glass of Irish whiskey in Don's honor.

Rode to work today after 5 straight days of rain. Not that unusual you say, the rain,, yea, a little much,, but I was in full summer gear only. Mesh, unlined jacket with short sleeve work shirt. And was sweating when I got to work. Don't remember any Dec. 26ths I've done that on.

Rode it for 90 minutes just to say I did, and to celebrate the end of 7 days' rain. 75F at 9 pm on one of the last days of December. Low-speed, through-the-city kind of stuff. Got warm in the blue jeans when at red lights.

KrZy8 allowed me to mount her today for the first ride since she got sick last September.

All the way, was thinking I should have been on Naomi, BeemerDons' 2013.. but she is down for serious LD jewelry, so KrZy8 got the nod.

..and KrZy8 threw a hissy fit by getting a screw in the rear tire which was totally flat by the time I got out of the breakfast restaurant.

A nice man, Bill, gave me a ride in his dog car to the local hardware store where I bought a 12 vdc air compressor and a big ol' bottle o' Slime.

Getting back, my new long found friend at breakfast, I discovered I bought a freaking 120VAC not 12 VDC compressor.. too ashamed to break Bill from eating, I walked .5 miles to the hardware store. Know that walking any distance is very painful me these days but I thought I was a complete ******* dumb *** so I proved it. Even Red Foreman would be proud.

Exchanged the air compressor, walked back, Slimed the tire, powered up the 12VDC compressor and made it home.

Happy to see that my spare rim had a fresh enough an holding air, already balanced tire ready for install.

260 miles today for Pants and MikeP1300. We packed a sandwich and picnicked in the National Forest. Took a walk in the woods to check out an eagle's nest. Rode the 115-ish miles home straight. Mid 50s and sunny today. Nice weather for a change.

It's taking 3 bikes to do it, and I've still got 3 days left, but with a little bit of luck, I might make 15,000 miles this year in the saddle.

Stay thirsty, my friends....

Rode it to work.

Will ride again tomorrow. Lather, rinse, repeat. At least untill there is any combination of moisture and freezing temps.

I leaned my snow shovel against it. Weather will be sad around here over the next little while with freezing rain and I plan on hunkering down and keeping travelling to a minimum.

Hey, you're slipping. It was fun for me, helping you get the new shock installed. Almost like a virtual Tech Day. I was in the garage tracking down a squeal in the front left of one of the cars, and was on the second round of pulling the wheels and rotors, and had solved the problem (ABS and hub shim plate rubbing on the rotor) when you called on the shock. I'd work on a motorcycle ANY day!

You're going to love it...get the decals.

So happy to report that KrZy8 is back and running strong... another 2k and 200k.

...so happy, matter of fact, I rode her to work... 22F most of the way.

.....then discovered I left my nuke creds at the house so....

..........rode 40 minutes back into the 22F to retrieve then....

...............rode the 60 to get to work

.....................at 22F I was NOT warm enough, even with heated gloves and jacket liner

................................so who cares?

.......................................not me, I rode, baby, I RODE!

You easily would have gotten to 15K had you not had your get off. While 15,000 is nothing to balk at, you of all people get so much out of your miles. I would venture that the miles you get are really high quality based upon your literature that comes from them. The ride reports are great, but only tell half the story of how awesome those miles are. Milestone are what they are but "smilestones" are what I am after now. I have ridden some big mile days, seen too much interstate, and missed way too many smiles in an attempt to make miles. I need to get into your groove as it appears so much more rewarding based upon your resulting prose!!!!

Tom, you were a huge help today. That's why I appreciate the people of the forum. I had some questions about getting this shock on, so I am laying on my back under the bike and I just dial up a friend and get answers, exchange a few text messages, compare installation pictures, and then I am done. I know my mechanical skills are limited, but a shock swap is a 1 hour job total now and that even includes getting tools out and cleaning up. Tom said 15 min and I thought he had no idea of my ineptitude. But all is well and I will be setting up static sag and other stuff tomorrow. Thanks to Fairlaner as well, the shock was exactly as described and well packaged.

Opened the shed door to see if it is still there. Buckets of rain, both creeks overflowing the banks. And I feel like I've done about 400 sit-ups, just had hernia repair surgery Monday.

More tools, all set up for Penske rebuilds...does it ever end?

Rode it to work today even in the rain. Sun is supposed to be out later. A rainy day ride is better than no ride at all.

Dave

Prepping the '07 for a valve check, oil change, and a little de-farkling/cleanup......... she's going on the auction block in a couple of months....
