    06 Yamaha top box

Just put a Yamaha top box on my 07. With the accessory backrest and tax it came to over $700. The mounting bracket sits on top of the rack and adds another inch to its height but looks fine without the trunk. The dealer did the install because Yamaha paid for the bracket and installation due...

    Fog free helmet needed

Cat Crap works great! I use it on my ski goggles and my face shield. I just get it at the local ski shop or on the mountain. About $5

    Gliding

Hey, I live in a motorhome and I like to think I have brains. I don't tow my car behind it. I just carry the Feejer on a rack on the back. Both wheels off the ground and engine off. Does this count as coasting?

    Gliding

Can't see that gliding accomplishes much compared to leaving the bike in gear with the throttle off. How much gas can you save?

    Cold last night...

Not sure why all the fuss over heated gear. Been riding the Wasatch at around 20 degrees for a couple of weeks and the only thing that gets cold are my hands. Just duofold thermals under riding pants and a Tour Master Jacket. I'm definately looking into heated grips or gloves though. You...

    FJRF004: The 2006/7 Altitude Fix

Have to second TruWrecks post. I regularly make 5000 to 7000 feet elevation changes and that surge can get downright dangerous, particularly if you aren't expecting it.

    FJRF004: The 2006/7 Altitude Fix

I was just describing a method of confirming the problem. When it get's bad, the surge scares hell out of me. My ECU is in and will be installed on Thursday.

    FJRF004: The 2006/7 Altitude Fix

I got the surge riding from Victorville up to Wrightwood. It only gets annoying in the curves. You might try the technique from the excerpt posted here. After climbing to the summit, fall back a little (if safe in I15 traffic) and at low rpm, open the throttle to about 3/4 and hold for a few...

If it is below 40 deg F, should I have the middle cowl open or closed

It's been in the lower 30s here on my way to work and I had mine out in 25 degree weather and snow flurries last weekend. Extended the fairings and I can tell a difference. I may be psychochromatic cyclesomatic a head case, but I think it keeps most of me warmer. The only thing that gets cold...

    Ethics in shopping? Helmets

It looks to me like everybody is saying basically the same thing. We don't mind coming up with a few extra $$ in exchange for the service our local dealers provide, like being able to touch and try on. But our loyalty goes down the tube if we feel gouged. I also find that knowledgable and...

    New owner's first impressions

Welcome, I acquired my 07 mid summer and it took a little getting used to. Traded a Suzuki DL650 for the FJR. The Suzi was just plain fun but I like long trips on weekends and the Feejer is much more stable at high speeds. Clutching took the most getting used to. The technique I use is a...

    first long ride on FJR

Sonicspeed, Is your 423 mi trip still your longest day? Weather's getting into the 30s here with frequent snows. I might not be doing anymore long trips until spring. Only three? Its a tough life. Do you ski?

    NAFO Dates Set!

If you come in to Utah, US 6 through Ely, say hi to the Millard County Sherriff for me. I'm one of his biggest supporters.

    The FJR can't cruise

The FJR can cruise. While experimenting with altitude surging in the mountains today, I had several occasions to ride through snow showers and on slick roads. When the surging is not present, throttle control is very smooth and it is possible to make very fine adjustments in acceleration. The...

    FJRF004: The 2006/7 Altitude Fix

Correction: In my previous posting, I disagreed with the bulletin and claimed that shutting off and restarting was the only altitude cure I experienced. That turns out not to be the case. I took my FJR out for a loop over the Wasatch into Wyoming and back this afternoon and deliberately...

Do people ask you what your bike is??

I like that. Sometimes I can't resist getting in a little editorial comment though. I like to point out to the cruiser folks that I chose a bike that goes well with a helmet. Darrell

    FJRF004: The 2006/7 Altitude Fix

Warchild, Dale, Many thanks. Talked to the local Yamaha dealer here in Ogden, UT this morning (are names OK here). He said the new ECM was on its way. Living here along the Wasatch, I frequently ride from 4000 to 10000 feet altitude. Didn't buy the FJR from this dealer but when I told him a...

Changing Gears without using the clutch

Hate to be the odd man out but with the FJRs power and trans, I have been practicing the fast clutch in and eeeaasy smooth out technique of up shifting. Smooths out the shifts incredibly. Haven't tried clutchless shifts on the FJR yet but do it all the time on dirt bikes
