I keep telling him that and he keeps looking for reasons not to wear it.

Dan, what are you looking at?? You need MX boots and you've got those. Knee and shin protection; although the shin crap is redundant cuz they double up with the boots.

Get a pressure suit that has chest, back, shoulder, and elbow coverage. See if you can find the padded shorts to protect your hips some and you should be good.

If you can't find MC specific shorts, go to a sporting goods store that sells football equipment. Find the girdle pads and wear those. Covers the same areas and FB stuff will exist in your size. They're usually mesh shorts with removable pads in pockets.

Falling down should be as painless as possible.

LOL.... I don't think he plans on falling down. Never plan to fall off my FJR but I still wear stuff to protect me from that event!
Uh Tom, you used the word "think" and Big-D in the same sentence! Any of you Canadians interested in buying some ocean front property in Arizona eh? You can see the sea!

I don't plan on falling down, at least not to the point of needing to be dressed like a gladiator. Riding to have fun is what its all about, being comfortable is important. I don't think the people riding big heavy bikes will be flying over too many jumps, hauling *** down a creek bed or climbing up narrow slick rock trails heading for ledges with 1000ft cliffs within a foot or two from the trail.

Sooooo, are you NOT riding the single track with us then? What about all the crap talkin' about blowing away that KTM? It's ok to be old...it's NOT ok to be a BigDouche! PUT YOUR MAN PANTS ON, MARY!!!

Knee pads? Elbow pads? Hip pads? Pressure suit. Holy crap. I long for the days when a pair of lineman boots and a Levi jacket coupled with a $10 helmet from Pep Boys was all you needed. As for the football equipment, all we used in the good old days was a plastic partial face mask we machine screwed to the $10 helmet.

Ah, to be young dumb and full of........ again.

Have fun all.

Mark

As my drinking Bro' Rodney and Papa Chuy always say: "Can't we all just get along!"

Buy a helmet? Never even considered that, just strapped on whatever was the closest fit from my parents collection. But the cool kids had one of these!

I didn't realize what trails I decide to ride had such an impact on AJ & Patch. Doing some simple calculations, I haven't ridden a dirt bike, especially one that has the giddy-up this one does in over 35 years. I plan on coming back from Moab in one piece if at all possible, so I am not planning on being the feature entertainment of crash & burn.

I'm surprised at AJ being 40 himself, having three daughters of his own to provide for, the last thing he needs are broken body parts that could haunt him for the rest of his days. My days of having to prove myself in order to be acceptable disappeared after leaving 8th grade . My only commitment are to the people I will be leaving at home in Lake Havasu and the three girls that told their dad he was crazy for buying a dirt-bike in the first place.

I have never been to Moab, so all I really know about it is what I've watched on YouTube. Depending on what actual conditions I find in Moab will determine which trails I ride and those I won't. This trip is supposed to be fun, not some rivalry between two high schools. Besides, I don't care what trails anyone else ride, why should anyone care what I ride?

Get over it!

Now I should be able eat a certain KTM <img src='https://www.fjrforum.com/forum//public/style_emoticons/default/haha.gif' alt='Posted Image' class='bbc_emoticon' /> for lunch and show Patch <img src='https://www.fjrforum.com/forum//public/style_emoticons/default/finger.gif' alt='Posted Image' class='bbc_emoticon' /> the proper technique to racing in the dirt. I wonder how he'll feel having his *** handed to him by an old man? <img src='https://www.fjrforum.com/forum//public/style_emoticons/default/punk.gif' alt='Posted Image' class='bbc_emoticon' /><img src='https://www.fjrforum.com/forum//public/style_emoticons/default/tonguesmiley.gif' alt='Posted Image' class='bbc_emoticon' /></p></blockquote>

I assumed from this li'l quote that you were in n the trash talkin' was on. These rides are also intended to get HRZ's butt home in one piece. Ride what ya want.

I am NOT crashing and burning. I'll sacrifice the bike first. (Just kidding Joe)

Dan...Regardless of what we're riding, I like the gear. I broke my foot at the end of a stupid ride, 100 yards from the hotel. We had hammered the bikes all day and were messing around in some kind of soft mining silt. I dropped the bike when my foot sank. The right peg landed on my foot and broke my middle toe. If I woulda had my MX boots on, I woulda been fine. Instead, I spent 6 weeks in a stupid boot.

Wear whatever gear you want, and ride whatever trails you want. I'll prolly be bringing up the rear behind Patch and Yamafitter anyway. I'm going to have fun, and I'm not planning on crashing, but dirt bikes falling over is common, and if I do go down, I want my gear to work like it's supposed to.

Wasn't trying to hurt anyone's feelings, or make anyone feel like they have to do anything they don't want to do. Maybe it's time for me to take a break from here...WTF.

I was gonna take an extra day off work and head up early with a few people, but maybe I'll rethink that too.

Sheesh!

I've been shopping for protective gear (i.e. Roost, Elbow, Knee), but after going into a huge shop in Temecula damn near the size of a walmart, the largest stuff they had wouldn't fit around my thighs, like it was all is sizes to fit little skinny guys that don't weigh over 120-140lbs. They may make stuff to fit taller husky (not fat) guys, but it must be tried on before purchasing. May not get any armor stuff. The two Bro's wear protection in the work place, I'm not talking about man-whoring, so they are used to it.
Nonsense. I'm 5'8" and 250. If I can find gear anyone can. Check out the Thor impact rig for upper body protection. They make 3 bigger sizes than what I wear. Klim Dakar pants come in big boy sizes, albeit I had to have mine hemmed since I'm so tall. They have built in hip protection, strap on some knee and shin guards and some boots and you are good to go! Wouldn't ever ride without gear.
On the plus side the katoom is ready for single track season! Come on summer!

Oh for Christ's sake patch, Dan and AJ: Would you Southwestern Girlie Men stop bitching and whining: And, just ride dammit!

What is really embarrassing is that you don't see any of those goofy Canuckistanis sniveling and crying away like Girlie Men!
