Any possibility of also selling conspicuity lights in the around 550 Lumen range? I need fork mounted lights for the V-strom for the dedicated purpose of being conspicuity lights. 850 Lm + I consider to be too much light for conspicuity purposes. I want people to notice and not be annoyed. I also don't want to run PWM circuits which more often than not introduce noise in my audio devices.

I'm in! Looking forward to the dimmer. Will the dimmer turn the lights completely off? Or will I need to wire a switch?

John

That's a good suggest and I'll look into it. As to audio noise from PWM circuits, here's the solution: https://ledrider.com/led-auxiliary-lights-and-fm-radio-interference/

Thanks for your order. There will be a full off position on the dimmer's knob :)

I added a PAC CSS-12 filter on the power output to my audio system. I have no noise from the light controller or heated gear controller. YMMV

After a nasty (caged) drive home in rain, dark, traffic....

I'm temped to get a pair of these and your new dimmer for my Camry. I'll have to peek under the bumper and see what my mounting options are

Can the dimmer be separated for flat panel mounting of the knob?

According to specs, the PCB *should* be able to come out of the case and be able to be panel mounted. But I can't make any promises until I have the prototypes in hand and see if there's anything I in the final design that makes them hard to pull apart. I will let you know when when I get them in.

Ordered!
Tnx Justin!

Anybody want a lightly used set of Hella Micro-DE Xenons? PM Me.
Somebody didn't read the part that said "$130, shipped to your door, anywhere in the USA."

- No worries though, we'll get it across the border. How much for the DE's? Would be handy to have a set for comparative testing.
I didn't expect free shipping to Canada Justin. Not a problem. That's a good deal!

I took a good look at mounting the DE's on the '13. Short of either lengthening the high tension wires from the ballast to enable me to mount them in the BACK of the bike, I just don't see them fitting nicely. But they'll fit in a Gen 2/Gen 1.

Haven't even thought about price yet. Hell, Yesterday at 3pm buying a set of LR4's was the farthest thing from my mind

... now, what did I do with my set of Gaurald Gen3 mounts.. I just moved, I know their still around here somewhere.

Sadly - Holiday special #1 is closed. Any waiting orders are going out today. Thanks for the biz, and stay tuned for next weeks special on the mini LED :) . After that, specials are done for this holiday.

Yep. What PC said.

Thanks again Justin!

This is something I've done some thinking on already, and I have been leaning towards a cob LED strip setup, since they have a wide field of view, and use very little power. I should have an update soon.

I would prefer a spot beam like the one I have on my FJR that another member used to sell on this forum (name and company not mentioned because it is not their thread). That one is similar to your other LED circular lights with 3 LEDs putting out about 550Lm. I run them sans dimmers and have never had an issue with annoying someone or getting flashed for the past 17,000 miles or so that I have had them this year. The mounting hardware of course needs improvement if it is to see service on a dual-sport like the V-strom.

I like the beefier mounting hardware that your lights use, that combined with the 550LM spot beam lights on either side of the forks would be perfection (for me).

An LED strip I am not too keen on, but open to hearing why that maybe the better option. If the LED strip direction would be my only option, I might just be tempted to figure out a way to mount Whelen LIN3 or TIR3 white LEDs on my forks in a steady burn pattern. No LED strip I have seen has been able to outperform the Whelen LIN3 or TIR3, after all that is what LEOs use when they want to be seen, so why mess around with any other LED strip?

All that being said, I want to first see what options you might figure out and would have to offer, because you are a friend and I would like to give you some business if you have a comparable product.

OK, I see what you were referring to. Do you run those at night, or just during the day? I can't imagine even 550 Lumens being run at night without a dimmer.

Did you see the picture of the Mini lights we sell that I posted? This is what they look like on full.

As to the cob strips I was talking about, you will see those used often for daytime running lights which are designed for visibility. What's appealing about those is that they have a really wide viewing angle, use very little power and put out a decent amount of light without being blinding. And the weird shape is different from what people are used to seeing, which may help as well.

If you want to try a set of the Mini lights above, and see how they work for your application, let me know and we'll work something out.

I have run them at night through LA and the SF bay area. I have these fork mounted lights aimed down a bit, and since they are spot lights and not flood lights, that seems to have done the trick at night also, so they have worked great for both daytime and night-time conspicuity. I have yet to get flashed, because of those lights, but I have had many a rider mention they could clearly see me coming in their rear views.

I might be persuaded on the cob strips option, but I would have to see them in person, I have never seen those in person to have any idea how effective they would be (or appear to me, as I know it is all subjective).

Photo assist below

Here's some examples of COB LED light strips.
Night time:

Day time:

They are very "visible", but not blinding. And, they will only draw 2-3 watts each for a motorcycle sized length. I was going to test a few different sizes and mounting options.
I'm thinking that amber lights on the fork legs would stand out in traffic even more? And wiring them with a controller that flashes them as a turn signal would be helpful for when you have your higher up aux lights turned on too?

Sounds like your describing the Skene Photon blaster - which is probably the best option for folks that are looking for pure conspicuity lights. They are a little pricey, but I've heard nothing but good things about them.

Justin,
The LR4s arrived last night. They look great. Any time frame on the dimmer?

John
Thanks John :) I have a few prototype dimmers arriving today. Once I check those out and sign off on the design, we'll start up production (hopefully).

I have looked at the photo blasters, while they seem very nice, I feel they are pretty darn expensive for what they are, although I am sure they are of great quality.
