Everything's wet here in Auburn and it's raining lightly. Deep gray skies. The weather radar shows a band of rain continuing in our direction. Hourly weather forecasts show rain showers on and off all day, and I can't really say from that how far south looks like it might take to get out of the rain.
So, it looks like high 40s (F), 7 or 8 mph breezes making it feel a little cooler, with probabilities of more wetness from the skies diminishing after noon. What seems a certainty is wet roads all day.
Okay, Rich. It isn't loking real positive.

I'm still heading for Brookfields and from there, if it's not raining, we'll head to Starbucks in case anyone else shows up.

We can always turn around and head home or simply ride Hwy 49 South to Placerville...hoping!

For all who can't make it: Happy New Year!

You will only know if it is too wet to ride, when you get to back from riding.

Terri and I will see you at Brookfields.

Just remember, once your soaked, you can't get any wetter.

well, you coulda parked a bike out here, j'es sayin' ;)
Okay.

barb.

Yes...but you can get COLDER.
Yep, as we proved in Glacier Nat'l Park last June.** <_<

We'll be at Starbucks on Auburn Folsom Road in Auburn to greet anyone who does show up, but it's unlikely that we'll be on the bike. Let's put it this way -- I got a "NO" to going there on the bike two up, implying that I could go by myself if I wanted to. So, thinking tactically on this first morning of 2010, I rephrased my question. And what I got was a "yes" to the suggestion that we cage it over to Starbucks to meet whomever shows up, and then get a late breakfast/brunch at South Pine Cafe 2 doors down.

BTW, to you snowbound types -- during the years I lived in the Sierras and Rockies, IF I'd have gotten a day like this (high 40s and light rain) in the midst of frozen winter, I'd have been out riding, because it'd be the best I'd likely see for months. BUT (rubbing it in a little), living below the snow line here, I know that the next 6 days are forecast to be "partly cloudy" and dry (10% chance of precipitation). So, a wet day like today makes more sense to be spent setting up my new copier/printer/scanner/fax and doing paperwork.

:p :p :p

** BTW, as a result of that experience in which YOU grinned and turned up your heat 'troller while I froze (same as on Icefields Parkway a week earlier), I bought a Gerbings heated jacket liner last week and have one for Judy on order, but haven't had time (with year end business and tax crap) even to hook it up on the bike yet.

Just got up and am trying to figure out if I will make this ride. I see the ground is wet here in Concord, and misty out, and like the Wicked Witch of the West, I don't like the wet. But I may still stry to rendezvous with youz guys for breakfast. What time was that meet again? Oh wait. Is that the time? Uh, never mind. :(

I just popped in to join the group for coffee before they departed on their rain ride. But, I did RIDE there.

The gfrans, the HYCLEs, the Flying Juniors, the Barbie Doll Trio MadMikes (you don't wanna know),

and feeger (Al, - who had to hurry home to finish his cross-country photostory/ride report that we're waiting

to see), were in attendance.

The ladies came for breakfast, but only Terri (Ms. HYCLE) actually went on the ride.

Snapped a couple of photos as they lurched off.

(L to R)-

Flying Junior (Walt), gfran (Gary), and MadMike (Stumpy).

Their good side. (...as if they had one. :D )

And of course, Master HYCLE and his lovely, talented, always-cheerful sweetheart, Terri.

Be safe, kids.

Truncated ride and I'm the first one back.

First, the Starbucks on Auburn Folsom Rd. is CLOSED and GONE!! I wonder when that happened (it's about 1/2 mile from my condo). But we met in the parking lot outside the abandoned space with a "for lease" sign on it.

From there, we rode the first part of the ride I'd charted -- through the lower elevations' rural scenic back roads and twisties. Mostly only scattered raindrops and some light rain, started getting a bit heavier as we split up, Flying Junior and gfran taking 80 west, and madmike2 (with dolls in tow) and the Hycles heading south and west on Auburn Folsom Road through Folsom to 50 west.

Good to see everyone who made it (i.e., didn't wuss out, like OM), and it's time to start a fire and get a few things done here.

Happy New Year everyone!!!

:bye: :bye:

We are home from a great time riding with friends.

Fantantastic roads, thanks Rich.

Not enough rain to wipe the visor off.

No body parts wet and I was wearing Olympia mesh pants with no liner.

Never plugged in the heated vest and had to take it off when we got to Auburn's nonexistant Starbucks.

Looking forward to Death Valley Daze.
