Anyone who's been paying attention the last 2-3 years knows that the de-facto standard for aux lights within the LD community are the Philips HID (PHID) lamps.

The new sole distributor for the PHIDs is Mr. Bill McAvan (blm-accessories.com) , and he's putting on a two-week Group Buy for these lamps for those that are interested. Looks like if y'all can get 30 participants, you'll save you some serious coin:

PHIDs Group Buy - Apr 17-28, 2006

2006 owners need to be aware the Top Gun light brackets for all previous model year FJRs will not fit the new bike. They are in development now; probably won't be ready for 2006 owners for a good several weeks yet.

Direct any Group Buy questions you might have to Bill McAvan at: [email protected]; I am just the messenger here.....

I've been a lurker for this Killer farkle since I got my bike 2 years ago. Can you refresh my memory on how difficult it is to install these lights. It must be easier since these have the ballasts mounted already on the back of the lamps, so is it just the wires that go behind the A-B-C-D- panels????

PS, I just got back my taxes from my accountant, and I'm feeling a little flush...... (good)

You still have ballests.

Mine was a PITA but I installed the HID headlights at the same time so I had 4 ballests to install.

Check out WC's page for install tips.

Its a PITA but well worth it.

Rogue would be referring to Warchild's Eyes of God farkle page that is suspiciously lacking from his website currently (may not be 100% up to date), but I know the magic words in Google to find them.

These suckers will confuse traffic into thinking your a 747 on final approach. Small children will cry, drivers will confuse you with baseball stadiums, and deer will be literally mesmerized into being even more stupid.

They're not cheap, but once you have them you won't even want to bother keeping your halogen high beams anymore.

Damn though.... $600 for a pair of lights.... I'll just limit my night riding. The reviews state that they are great lights. First I'll get the HID headlights installed for half that price. Then we'll see.

One farkle at a time. Slowly.

Why make comment's like this if there's something that your not comfortable with.

GB's take enough time and energy to put together, then you come along and your throwing water on the fire.

Start another thread if your not happy about something related to this product.

Two questions please:

1. Do us FJR owners want the "U" brackets to go along with the FJR Goodies brackets, instead of, or not at all?

2. Is the group buy all-inclusive? Meaning, do the 30 players have to come from this forum, or is it the total number of sets he sells during this period? (i.e. us, the Blackbird forum, the Goldwing gang, and if I tell BARF, all rolled into one) If that's the case, 30 would be a snap. I'm hesitant to get in if I can't get the best deal available. People talk long **** around here, but I doubt that 30 of us would pony up when the BS stops.

I wish I could justify two sets (one for the FJ Cruiser :D )

Yes, you do. Trust me. They allow the most flexibility when aiming your lights.

Spread the word far and wide, to as many web forums as you think might be interested, just give them the above link.

I just posted here, ST.N, also the two LDRiders lists, so those of you on the GoldWing and BMW forums should definitely pass the link to your forums, as those owners are always searching for a killer set of lights.

Wow. That response was a little over the top to a rather innoculous comment. Sheeze. :erm:

He wasn't ragging on the Group Buy or the product; just saying that $600 was a little much in his opinion for extra lighting.

Historically, negative feedback on GB threads has not been embraced. ;) So, i'm gonna go start a different thread about some other issue, possibly negative, related to aux lighting.

I figure why limit my night riding when I can create daylight?

Last time I checked, the average deer strike costs quite a bit more than 6 bills to fix, IF you survive, and not all do.

I've been waiting 2 years(NO money :( ) for this chance to buy these lights..

I've been using a combo of PIAA's and Hella FF lights which I will sell if we

can get enough folks to buy and get the price down to the low number($600)

I'm gonna tell other riders about this offer and hope they can pony up....

Try to get to ride or follow a bike with these lights on,you'll be amazed !!!!

600 bucks is cheap when compared to what can happen at night.

We all hear stories about deer(moose, racoon, rabbit) strikes, road debris, bicycles, joggers Etc. I ride a lot and NEED these lights !!!!!!

So lets all stay positive. Those who don't want the lights or are AGAIN gonna

cry over the details of a group buy,,,, please don't post.

Don't forget the demonstration!

So why does this guy still advertise (albeit at $700.00) them if the other guy is the exclusive distribtor?

Edit- Maybe he doesn't. The other link doesn't lead to the kit.

Cool! A good excuse to procrastinate further (and ride more) on my HID headlight install.

As I understand it, Catfish used to be the distributor, but the importer appearently decided to go with McAvan for whatever reason. I'm guessing Catfish just hasn't updated his website to reflect this, regardless, when he runs out of his current inventory, that will be that.

The current number of Group Buy participants is now displayed on the PHID Group Buy web page , so it looks like y'all are currently up to 15 as of this morning, so you're halfway to the mega-discount after only one day!

Nice addition to the website! (BTW, now at 18!) Maybe we can get another cut at 50 or 100? I'm in!

Another question...

Can one purchase just the new bracket without the PHID's? I already have the lights from a previous GB and am interested in the brackets only.

If I have to buy another set of HID's my next question is.....

Has anyone put two set's on their bike? :D :D

#22 here... Just couldn't turn it down... So now I have to put more old hobby equipment on EBay... It is just sitting in the basement anyway...

Now I'll have some light to illuminate US 50 for the trip to Reno !

Thanks WC !
