I much prefer frugal... it has a much nicer ring to it.Never meet him, but I'm sure he is a cheap bum!Kevin who?
I think the easiest place to meet up is the Sheep Rock Unit Visitor Center between 11:30 - 12:00. We'll probably take a 30 - 45 minute pit stop there. This assumes that we depart Maupin before 8:30 and don't encounter any forest rats. h34r:Planning to join up Sat. morning as I will be riding from Tri-Cities. Sounds like the ride might be going through Shaniko en route to Fossil etc. If someone could PM me the route and approx. time, I could meet up and continue back to Maupin with the group. Thanks,

You might want to rethink the Maupin 8:30 start time, the forecast is 35 degrees and it will be even colder in Antelope, Fossil, and everywhere in between.I think the easiest place to meet up is the Sheep Rock Unit Visitor Center between 11:30 - 12:00. You are bringing your heated gear along, right? The route as planned now is 276 miles. Last year IIRC we didn't return to the hotel until after 5 PM. If we do a later departure, will have to take a look at shortening the route. I think I remeber a ride starting at 24 degrees last Fall going to Hwy 20. 35 sounds balmy. You are bringing your heated gear along, right? The route as planned now is 276 miles. Everything east of Maupin looks very cold in the early morning and not very warm in the afternoon. My suggestion is Maupin to Grass Valley, Wasco (boring but not long), Condon (very nice ride), Fossil (nice ride), Antelope (should be above 50 by then), Shaniko, Bakeoven, Maupin. About 190 miles total. You are bringing your heated gear along, right? The route as planned now is 276 miles. Last year IIRC we didn't return to the hotel until after 5 PM. If we leave at 8:30 we might be wishing for 35 degrees at the higher elevations between Antelope and Fossil.I think I remeber a ride starting at 24 degrees last Fall going to Hwy 20. 35 sounds balmy.
You volunteering to lead and be the deer sweeper? I'll stare at a map tomorrow (some of us work!) and finalize the route then.Everything east of Maupin looks very cold in the early morning and not very warm in the afternoon. Whats work? Check the temperatures before you finalize the route, maybe we will get lucky, but the forecasts the last couple of days have gotten cooler every time I checked...but if want to do a polar bear ride don't let me stop you. If enough riders want to go to Sheep Rock maybe we should have 2 rides.I'll stare at a map tomorrow (some of us work!) and finalize the route then.
Don't forget the missesLooks like the 20's for the morning rides. Mid 20's. Sheesh. Let me see:
Underwear
long underwear
Fleece
MC Pants (Not MC Hammer)
wool socks
boots
t shirt
long underwear t-shirt
wind stopper fleece
MC jacket
the thick gloves with no feel
helmet (maybe stocking cap)
sunglasses
At least the side bags will have plenty of room since I will be wearing everything. Room for: hot chocolate, Bailey's for the arrival celebration, Tequila for later, hand warmers, breath mint, massage oils for ....er um..., camera,
What else do I need?
