Dam Ray! Missed seeing you and the Mrs tonight. Don't worry we ate good tonight and had a good ride today. Just get better and take care.

When they didn't show up! We waited.

Finally, I committed to riding back down the road to make sure they were not off in the bushes or stuck to a tree and/or that they didn't have a problem that needed assistance from my tool kit. With that the "what if" was removed and the others felt assured that that they could continue on home. So the waiting was over and we all went on with our rides.

I looked to the right and I looked to the left at every corner and cliff, but they were not to be found. When I cleared the last possible stretch that they could have gone missing, I call to report to the others that the missing could not be found along the side of the road and that they had continued on by another route, which I already knew, but to just make sure we were all safe I committed to this ride back to Trout Lake. Trout Lake is were we stopped for lunch, at Kj's Bear Creek Cafe. I had a huckleberry cobbler with ice cream and coffee, and I briefed the soon to be missing on the roads that we would be traveling on between Trout Lake and Randle. I also removed the electric gloves and turned off the electric liner, both of which were wonderful for the 28 degree morning start.

Needless to say, the ride home by way of FS90, FS23, SR141 and 14 was wonderful. Having to ride back down the road I just came up wasn't hard at all. Here is a nice picture of Mt. Adams with fall colors:

Ken, I just missed you. I went about 4mi up 23 which was all rough gravel, then stopped and thought to myself: no, these guys are too smart to drive another 8 miles on this stuff. Surely something happened on the paved highway. And off I went back to trout lake.

As it turns out, they were both coveting RS1200 Adventures, cause they made the full trip on the road to Randle, and made it home just fine. We all reconvened back at Auburns. I took the same route you did, and slabbed it to Seattle. Obviously I made good time.

Nice to see you again. Ride was great.

Hey everyone. I had a great time on and off the bike this weekend. Thanks for the friendship and camaraderie. I have reviewed all the ride video I took and sorry to say beamer reamer's amazing save from the edge of catastrophe did not get in. The batteries gave up just minutes before that event. I am thinking of investing in a 12V powered system, something that will capture an entire day's riding without fuss. Anyway, I will be cutting out all the boring parts and any corners I bobbled and getting them uploaded to my Picassa web page soon for your viewing pleasure. Hope to see some of you at the Auburn Tech Event. Ron.

I shall post up the nasty details of my mistake and big save (which will clearly show a lot of luck) once a ride report gets posted. Not too mention the icicles hanging from my important front end components on the following brisk morning. My teaser for the ride report - maybe you ride away from this type mistake 1 out of a few hundred times.

DustyR - it was great to meet you and I enjoyed the rides. I hope to see you at the tech meet in a couple of weeks.

Sounds like you guys had a great time and froze your hard parts off, I'm in Cancun where it's 85 deg...yea I know, rub it in..I look forward to seeing pictures.

Made it home this evening. Had a great time seeing old friends and making new ones. The Saturday ride was cold...yes Marcus, some hard parts were frozen and the campfire was again a treat. I ran into the beginnings of snow at Ellensburg and had to divert from my planned Stevens return to slabbing over Snoqualmie. Pics tomorrow.

I thought the Sunday ride home was cold, the Saturday ride turned out to be a lot of fun in spite of the temperatures. Fun weekend! :clapping:

I had a great time. Thanks to everyone for making me feel welcome. Rode on Sunday with Steve and George to Grass Valley, then backtracked thru Antelope, Fossil, and Condon before getting to Arlington on fumes. I coasted on many of the downhill sections and ended up riding an additional 29 miles after my tank showed empty. It took 5.75 gallons to fill. Was it as close as I think or could I have gone further?

Cheers,

Mark

That was cutting it really close. I think it is a 6 gallon tank?

Good to meet you Mark.

Tank is 6.6 gallons completely empty. If you were 29 miles into the flashing reserve, you would have been pretty low. Plan your fuel stops in the wilds...there aren't many stations in those parts and no guarantee the one that was open last week will be open now.

Great people, great roads, great scenery, great food, and great weather -- can't wait for next year.

Video road footage of the roads from Maupin to Shaniko to Fossil and the loop trip out of Fossil can be seen at https://www.youtube.com/roadking82 Feel free to add captions, annotations, comments, etc.

Check the ride report Wingshot, I think I say your mug in there a few places.
It is unfortunate that you would take advantage of those still high from riding such great roads. Yet, as the great BB King sings ... 'but honey, it doesn't count when you're high'.

Thanks Dustyrains for the great footage.
