The Gen3 shock made Dad's '07 sit a bit higher with him on it. It does not compress as much under hard cornering which translates into more available lean angle. It definitely made a huge difference for him, I hope yours does the same for you.Installed new Gen 3 rear shock. Top shock bolt was a bitch to get out past the ABS stuff. Neighbor came over and helped. Curiosity got best of us when we had old and new shocks laying out. I know the spring rates are different but just for grins we took a caliper and measured thickness of the spring itself. Gen 2 spring measured 12 mm Gen 3 comes in at 14mm. I think the bike might even sit a little higher now! Out of time for the day so have to test ride tomorrow.
To make it easier, just order the hose when you order the sb's. Guaranteed to fitInstalled 1 of 4 speed bleeders so I could flush the mucky clutch fluid.
Notes to anyone else planning on doing this:
1) Double check your part numbers. The rear brake is the odd bleeder, not the clutch.
2) Make sure the line you're using to connect to the bleeder actually fits over the nipple. Took me longer to get the line on than it did to installer the bleeder and flush the system.
Now get out there and ride it today...gonna be beautifulFinished the fork spring replacement and oil change. This is going to be different! The old springs were installed with at least 10 mm to little preload, and were the OEM. The new ones are 1.1 springs and have 15 mm preload. The front of the bike is about 15 mm higher sag to start. I knew it was soft and low, just didn't know how badly.
Ya never late on this threadThis is a day late, on Sunday flushed the clutch fluid while waiting for it to warm up a bit. Took a ride with a friend from Minneapolis to Hugo, then to Marine on the St. Croix, north to Taylors Falls, next to Grantsburg, over to Cambridge and home. A bit more than a 170 mile loop. It made for a nice day.
I've been out riding today after setting the sag. What I thought was noise in the cowling and windshield is now silent, so it was the forks banging around. The dive is gone and the bike does feel more confident in curves and rough roads. I seem to have hit the right settings as the ride is not at all harsh, just more controlled and quiet. Now get out there and ride it today...gonna be beautifulFinished the fork spring replacement and oil change.
