What did you do to your FJR today?

Installed the WynPro PAIR block-off plates. Easier than I expected, but more of a pain too. Might have helped if I had hex wrenches that worked at an angle and allowed me to get some torque through them. Needless to say, a better set of tools is going on my wish list.

While I was under there, I tried undoing a turn on the throttle return spring.

1) real easy to do on the '13 because the bit is on the far right side of the engine instead of smack dab in the middle like all the instructions show.

2) it popped off just like expected, but didn't catch on the tang. I don't know if it went around twice or it's just that short on the Gen III bikes, but I had to use some twine and a really long/thin screwdriver to get it back into place where it would work. Didn't notice a difference in the throttle compared to before I unwound it, so suspect Yamaha didn't use as long of a spring on my bike.

guess you'll have to wait till EOM

Come on Joe, just a couple pics to hold us off until SEOR. Bike porn is not a "lose your virginity" kind of thing.

Well, it was yesterday but I made the 16yr boy change the oil and final drive fluid. He doesn't work on many mechanical things, so i thought he/we would benefit from this experience.

Son: "I don't know how to do that!"

Me: "You are an honor roll-straight A student. Figure it out. Use the Internet for something good. I will give you a hint, I bet YouTube can help you"

An hour later, with some supervision, he was done.

Son: "What did you say the dealership charges per hour?? Can I get some of that?"

Me: "You just made some money. I just taught you a skill to save you a bunch of money in the future! You're welcome! No payment for tuition necessary!"

Son: "Since I worked on the bike, can I ride it??"

Me: "If you want to ride pillion, that's up to you, but you ain't driving the FJR."

Son: "Will you teach me to ride something smaller?"

Uh oh, I might have just created a monster. Mama ain't gonna go for this.

So congrats to Joe on the '16, first of all. What I've been doing is pulling farkles off the '05. The ones I can transfer I will (or already have) put on the new '14--highway pegs, aux mirrors, Hyperlites, maybe a couple other things. The rest will be up for sale soon, like the Bagster tank cover and two bags, Garauld tail rack with back rest, probably the CalSci windscreen, most anything that comes off that's worth selling. The Clearwater lights (Kristas and Glendas) I'm pulling--I'd like to transfer them if I can. That part's still up in the air. The bike's pretty beat and won't bring much of a sale price anyway, so might as well try to maximize.

Hey Cav47, my kid (21, but hasn't ridden, thanks to Mom) has been looking hard at my '05 now. I told him no way in hell does he learn to ride on an FJR. He'll probably start looking for something smaller soon, though.

Congrats, Joe! Here's to making the '13-15s less desirable (so Cav47 and I can update in he future).

BTW, Josh-getting mama on board may be a challenge, but worth it in the long term.

Not even gonna try now. Our couch is not comfortable!
Fuh. By the time I was 16, I had a street bike. Jump on in there. Don't make Uncle Don come up there and be a bad influence...
