Dave, correct, it's single 25 watt LED chip at the bottom of a large reflector. Lumen output is actually less at the source than the LR4 - 1800, vs 3400. But raw lumens at the source isn't the end all be all. The LR4's are designed as a do it all light, with good punch, AND a wide field of view. These are designed to throw a very tight beam, rally far - at the price of being huge. Probably not ideal for most riders due to the size. I'll try to get some comparative beam shots up towards the end of the week.

Damit Justin! I was just waiting for the dimmer switch to be ready to order it along with the LR4s, and NOW you come up with these! LOL! I still think the LR4s are better "all around" for my purposes, but can't wait to see the comparative beam shots.

Will the 25W spotlights be cheaper than the LR4s? Are they more like the LR10?

The new lights are not like the LR10's. I mentioned it above, the new lights are about the same size a 4 inch HID's, dwarfing anything else in our line-up. So, most likely, they are only going to appeal to a small segment of riders. Of course, you already have those big crash bars :) . In a small format, the LR4's are still the best do it all light we have. As to pricing, they will be substantially more than anything we have as well - roughly twice as much as a set of LR4's. I should have some comparative shots of both shots and beam patterns by next weekend.

justin,

i am planning on purchasing a dimmer and some LR4s.

my plan is to mount them on the canyone cages, any recommendation on a mount?

Rivco makes a black one ebay link

Probably better for lights than footpegs.

Do any of the electrical guru's here know how much unused amperage capacity we have on our high beam circuit?

I have a sudden desire to add a pair of LR6-1's in parallel. this would be under 2 amps.

Yes, I know...a relay is the "right way"....

Well you already know the "right" way, so I'll spare you the lecture. :)

The headlight fuse is 25 Amps. The headlights use less then 10. You'll be fine.

In that case I have room (electrically) for a pair of lr6-2's. I'm going to have to measure and ponder this before my next night ride out in BF Egypt

Just curious, why the aversion to using a relay and pulling power off the battery? It's really no harder to do than splice into the existing headlight wire.

It isn't an aversion so much. I just like to keep it simple when possible. These would see very little day to day usage.

Ponder this...

The headlight current passes through the ignition switch main contacts. You know... that plastic affair under the key that gets hot, melts down (without any added accessory current), the one they had a big recall on just to double the switch contacts without any other changes?

When you melt that switch you won't just lose your lights, you will then be dead on the side of the road in BFE. Don't be dead on the side of the road in BFE. Use a relay.

Fred - I though the headlight current on the FJR was relayed, and only switching current was going through the ignition. Guess I need to look at the manual :)

Nope.

Same as 1st gen, there is a headlight on/off relay, but the power that it is switching is fed by the headlight fuse, which gets it's power from the ignition switch main contacts. 51 below is the headlight on/off relay, 54 is the headlight fuse, and "1" is the melting plastic affair ignition switch.

A brilliant design.

Not only do I have MamaYama's new dual contact switch, I also have Art's relay and harness.

But, comments and opinions are what I asked for, and I thank you all ;)

I think you mean Brodie's Relay and Harness, right? Art only made the ground spider harness mod (that I am aware of).
