I can't help but think of last year, when I bailed out on the DV ride and those that went had a great time, weather didn't develop as expected...

I can't help but think of last year, when I bailed out on the DV ride and those that went had a great time, weather didn't develop as expected...

I too bailed last year because of weather like DCarver and also regretted it afterward. But I also agree with Johnny80's, hitting rain while on a ride is always a possibility and no big deal, but purposely and deliberately riding into a 3-day rain (snow) storm doesn't make sense either. So the weather report for end of the week will dictate being "In" or "Out" of this years DVD. Driving and/or trailering could also be a possibility just in case the weatherman is on drugs again.

I called the Longstreet Inn & Casino this morning to inquire their cancellation policy and their weather outlook.

Their current temperature is 45 degrees with clouds hovering at ground level with windy conditions and mixture of drizzle and rain since last night.

Reminder: Cancellation Policy is 24 hours prior to first day of reservation, which is Friday for most. 24 hours prior would be (Wednesday night @ midnight). If reservations drop to less than the agreed minimum of 10, the reduced rate could be withdrawn.

A major weather pattern shift is underway.

This pattern shift will usher in a very stormy period for California, the Southwest and parts of the intermountain West beginning Sunday and lasting through the week.

One of the hardest hit areas will be southern California where rainfall totals in the valley and coast will range between 4 to 8 inches by Friday. The foothills and western facing mountain slopes can expect tremendous amounts of rain (below snow level) of 8 to 16 inches.

These excessive amounts of rain will likely eventually result in flash flooding, debris flows, mudslides and urban/street flooding.

Snow amounts in the mountains of California will be tremendous - easily measured in several feet.

Ain't nothing like DV in the rain ......how about Badwater under two feet of water ....count me in! You only get to see that every 15years or so.
