FJR deal gone down the drain...

You have a deal with this company. An offer was made, and an acceptance - backed by your deposit - was confirmed by your signature, as far as I can tell from the grainy image you've provided. As someone suggested earlier, call Yamaha, explain the situation, and the fact that Yamaha should be...

    break-in procedure

Break-in? Simple... ride it freaking hard, change the oil often. 5 bikes over 20 yrs, never had a problem. All were/are Japanese.

...just signed for a new 08 FJR-A. Did I pay too much?

Yes, it's a good buy. Is it the best?.. who cares; second guessing yourself after signing brings only remorse. Go enjoy the bike, it's worth it no matter what you paid.

side cowls in open position makes us cooler or warmer

What a dummy I am, apparently. Had opened them up from day one in april (purch date for my 08), thinking that extra inch would draw and deflect warm air away from the bike. After reading this thread last week, just for laughs I closed them for a quick 80 mile scoot on Sat. Big difference...

    Yamaha Posts Half-Year Net Loss

"The marginal cost of producing the next Gen II FJR is pretty damned low....especially after you assign the amortization of the fixed costs to someplace other than North America. I would be very, very, surpirsed to see the line discontinued." Agree w/MCML's comment above..... Also keep in mind...

    Leak, but from where?

Sorry to interrupt the love fest here... got the bike back, Bluesman is the winner. Waaaay too much grease in the splines. Although I'm wondering now about good ol' Yam QC on the line. The factory was the last to touch anything back there. Oh well, problem solved and I learned somethin'.

Russell Seats taking a stance... (my rant)

The other issue that hasn't been overcooked yet, if I understand the OP correctly, is Russell's decision to void the warranty. Why? As someone else pointed out, it's time to move up Russell's chain of command.

Russell Seats taking a stance... (my rant)

Agree completely. Commons sense, given their vast experience with these bikes, shouldn't be ignored by Russell. They know damn well that these bike come w/bags, whether the customer included the bags in the pics is irrelevant. If they were unsure, they should have called. Now, to fix the...

    Leak, but from where?

I"ll get the skinny later today. The tech that peeked at it yesterday while signing into the svc dept is pretty sure it's the inner seal.

    Leak, but from where?

Thanks again guys for all the input, and amusement from certain court jesters. It's going in to the dealer today, and, based on what seems to be the consensus here, I can let go of the 'what if the rear end explodes whilst doing 80mph' thoughts. It's Yamaha's problem now.

    Leak, but from where?

Seems pretty weird that it would just start up out of nowhere... 2500 miles, not a speck, then boom, it starts up and continues. AFAIK, nothing was done by the dealer that included regreasing the splines, etc, when oil/rear fluids changed (dealer threw in a couple of these at purchase). I...

    Leak, but from where?

Checked all the likely sources, including drain, fill and breather, clean as can be. I like the suggestion of too much grease, but the substance is too viscous. It does spin out and makes a nice piece of 60's art on the left side of wheel. Hoping for feedback on the shaft housing/punched and...

    Leak, but from where?

'08 1300a w/2500 miles. Noticed some light oily streaking on the rear wheel, left side of inner rim only, perfect landing zone from the rear drive , or so it appears. This is the 3rd time, previous 2 I wiped it clean, hoping it was something road based, but alas it appears now for the...

rubber hitting the road - time to buy

Since you're in the NW, you might give Pro Caliber Motorsports a call. They're in Portland and here in Bend, both owned by Dick Hannah Auto. Size/Volume is a factor with price. Although perhaps not theee lowest anywhere, I negotiated what I consider a fair price for a new '08, OTD was...

    Zumo 660 first impressions

Hey man, thanks for the updates, they certainly have given me pause before hitting the 'buy' button on the new Zumo a couple of times. I've learned my lesson on LCD tv's, Ipods, whatever... and I'm by no means a tech guy, but a new iteration of any product has some risk, and as tech oriented...

What is the law on riding with a gun?

From the years of concealed carry - w/permit - and the multiple defensive handgun classes my wife and I have taken, I have learned that rarely do you ever have the time to think about what, where, and from whom the threat arrives. It's pretty much reacting based on repetitious training and...

    2008 FJR1300a

Buy it. It's a fair deal. Who cares why he's selling, as long as the bike checks out. Grind him for another couple hundred? Big deal, your time spent enjoying the bike is worth a couple hundred, right?

    Battery

A big No Doo Doo on bringing in all the batteries for the winter. Can't tell you how many I've lost, including AGM's in classic cars stored for 6 mos. 4000' elevation and cold winters eat batteries like Halloween candy. Tenders may help, but bringing them indoors works miracles.

    FJR Camping

Go visit your local REI - as someone suggested earlier. The camping and specifically the backpacking section has about everything one can imagine in compact, lightweight and tuff as nails gear. Go with the REI branded stuff if you can, it's as good or better than the overpriced Mt Hardware...

I bow down before the Great Satan

I'm a business owner. A small business owner. The castigation of the Walmarts of the world I find mildly hypocritical. Growth to a point of gaining efficiencies to beat up your competition is kinda admirable. Isn't that what most businesses aspire to become? I think so, however most just...
